What is the Relationship Between Tom Cruise and His Daughter Suri?

Tom Cruise is a father of three children, Isabella and Connor, whom he shares with his ex-wife Nicole Kidman, and his youngest, Suri, with his ex-wife Katie Holmes. While Cruise has a great relationship with Isabella and Connor, both of whom are active members of the Scientology faith (according to The US, S. Sun), it is less clear what kind of relationship he has with Suri. When Holmes and Cruise divorced, Cruise stated that Holmes' desire to keep Suri away from Scientology was a factor in their separation (according to HuffPost).

In 2004, Holmes admitted to Seventeen that she had once fantasized about marrying Tom Cruise (according to HuffPost). However, a few years later, the couple separated and Cruise admitted that Suri was no longer a practicing member of the religion (according to TMZ). HuffPost states that this means that Suri has now been considered a suppressive person in the eyes of the Church of Scientology. Suppressive people are often isolated from those who are still active members of Scientology.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes finalized their divorce agreement in 11 days (according to InStyle). Surprisingly, Cruise was not granted custody of Suri but instead was given visitation rights. According to Us Weekly, Tom Cruise was told he can visit Suri up to 10 days a month. However, due to them living in different states and countries, they have rarely been seen together.

One factor that may complicate the relationship between Tom Cruise and his daughter Suri is their distance from each other. Tom Cruise was one of Cher's “five best” lovers but later found it difficult to “look at this person”. Despite Tom Cruise's prolonged period of estrangement from Suri, a supposed friend of his has stated that the actor never intended to be so far away from his daughter. Many people speculated (and Tom later confirmed) that Holmes ended the marriage in an effort to protect Suri from Scientology.
